I see your point, however can't it also have output ?
Right now we are designing a low cost Zero sized audio board. it will have stereo input, with RCA footprints, but not populated.
We are targeting a small and low cost sound card.

Do you think that would suffice ?

I hope it has also SPDIF input for the Zero then. And/or coaxial in.

Since the RCA's are not populated, can they be swapped for one RCA which is coaxial?
If the chip supports it I solder the thing myself

Your "Zero"-sized card could be an ideal solution. I've already kludged together a "Pi Zero" with one of your cards, and it works well. A smaller card would be ideal, particularly for the portable Outside Broadcast gear. If this smaller card has both input and output, it would be simple to have a Pi Zero and your card at each end of the link.... This could be an excellent solution. Please keep me informed about developments!
