Audio Input Only

Post by paolohu » Wed Jan 25, 2017 4:39 am

Have you thought about creating a version of this card that only does audio input/capture? From my tests so far the audio injector does a great job - but I'm looking for something with the smallest footprint possible - ideally it would be the headphone jack input only.

I second this idea. It would be great to have a small footprint audio in card.

Thanks for the suggestion, sounds like a new product.
When you say small footprint card, what device will power and control it ?
thanks

If I were to design exactly what I wanted then I would remove all the audio output functionality. Then for input I think I would just leave off the line in (or maybe do what you did for the microphone - just leave the solder points) - I'd also leave off the potentiometer and let amixer control the volume. Then I'd squish the whole thing down into the smallest board you can.

For wiring it up - I'd just leave the holes and wire it up manually.

My plan for the current audioinjector is to remove the line inputs and outputs and wire up the mic so that the only thing I have to mount onto the case is a microphone input.

also - what are the specs on the potentiometers? I'd like to try and replace it with one that is shorter and doesn't stick out so much.

Sounds like an idea, I will have to look into it further, however I am not sure how popular it would be if it only had inputs !

The potentiometers are 100k Ohms. 09 series is what I think they notate this type as.

thanks

might be more simple in the short term if there was an option to buy the AI without the ports soldered on? ie, if I wanted the A/V input or output I could just solder them to the board.

That's kind of what I've done with one so far - I removed the A/V input and changed to a 3.5mm input that I mounted to the case.

Good idea, we will have to think about the practicality of trying to provide both types, soldered and unsoldered !

thanks

A line level stereo input-only board would be very popular. There's virtually nothing like that for the Raspberry Pi, and I have a great little application - running DarkIce on the Pi as an audio streamer to my radio station web server will be ideal. At the moment I have a couple of the Wolfson cards - they work well, but they're no longer available as far as I can see. They're also very expensive compared to the Audio Injector, and the quality is similar. At the moment we run Flash, but want to add an audio-only stream in the next few days. The Pi with an Audio injector will be a physically small solution, not taking up valuable space in the studio!

Another application is as an Outside Broadcast streamer for a radio station - or for anyone who wants to get good quality audio from one place to another over the interweb.

Please consider an input-only version.

I see your point, however can't it also have output ?
Right now we are designing a low cost Zero sized audio board. it will have stereo input, with RCA footprints, but not populated.
We are targeting a small and low cost sound card.

Do you think that would suffice ?
