The kickstarter has 1 week left. We will actually start manufacture in the next few days because we want to be ahead of the game :)

If you pledge with the kickstarter you should receive them within 4 to 6 weeks of the close of the campaign - depending on where you live. If you don't pledge with the kickstarter, then it will take longer then that for them to appear on the shelves of amazon and ebay.

I have a stereo injector and the smaller size of the zero is appealing. However, I'm looking for something which can sample at the same rate (or faster) as the no-longer available Cirrus Logic card, which apparently supported up to 192kHz. The project I'm trying to make is a bat detector
Any plans to do something like this in the future, or do you know of something which would work? I'm new to pi and electronics in general but it's going ok so far...

Thanks

Duncan

Texas Instruments has a lot of codecs that support 192 kHz, Matt ;)

Yes- I can do a 192kHz product ... I can see the necessity for such high sample rates where animals make noises up to 96 kHz.
However that would really have to be a different product.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, clearly a different product.

Thanks

Duncan, what is the main purpose of the bat detector ? Well I see the obvious one: Detecting bats! But one thing that would be interesting is to downshift frequencies into the audible range to be able to "hear" the bats.

I'm new to it all really, but I found this detector and thought I'd try making it. It should probably more be called a recorder. It's likely to do various things, but the main one seams to be recording ultrasound (UK bats tend to be low 20kHz up to just over 100kHz but in the area I live they're generally below 100kHz so the 192 sampling should be ok for me), displaying sonograms with sox, time expansion playback and peak frequency id. The songrams and peak frequency id are both useful for identifying bat species.

The detector I built from a kit last year is heterodyne - tune to approx. frequency and it picks up bat calls about 5-10kHz either side. These are the cheapest to buy but you can obviously miss out on outside your target frequencies (you have to know what species to expect but you always get exceptions and will miss some).

Unfortunately I don't know much about electronics, but it's been fun playing so far.

And the reason for it all - I do a few bat surveys for an ecology company (I work for a wildlife trust so do lots of wildlife work) and this detector seamed like a cheap way to learn more about bats - this type of kit usually costs a lot
