Raspberry Pi W Zero Support

Post by jalopy » Tue May 23, 2017 5:17 pm

Hi,

Can I use this sound card for the Raspberry Pi W Zero?
It was able to detect the soundcard but playback doesn't work.

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [audioinjectorpi]: audioinjector-p - audioinjector-pi-soundcard
audioinjector-pi-soundcard

Getting the following error with aplay in the dmesg log:

[ 3719.522228] bcm2835-dma 20007000.dma: DMA transfer could not be terminated

I used the same SD card on a Pi 3 and audio playback is fine.
So my alsa configuration should be correct.

Thanks,

-Jack

OK - sounds like a good start.

I am wondering if output hasn't been enabled in the alsamixer ?
Can you verify that your "Output Mixer HiFi" is enabled in the alsamixer ?

thanks
Matt
p.s. The DMA transfer message isn't related to the machine or codec driver for the audioinjector cards. That message is in the bcm2835 i2s driver and applies to all sound cards.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the quick response.

I was using the Pi 3 before I switched over to the Pi Zero W. Playback and recording from RCA input and microphone work fine on the Pi 3. To save time, I then used that same SD card from the Pi 3 with the Pi Zero W and ran into this playback issue.

I can double check the settings when I get home tonight but I don't think it should change if I reuse the same SD on a different Pi.

Thanks,

-Jack

OK,

I am working on the Zero Version of this card over the next two weeks :

I should be able to test and help you over this period.

Hi Matt,

I need to showcase my prototype project within two weeks at a major event in my company. I can use the Pi 3 with your original sound card but I would prefer to use the Pi Zero W instead if it works. Can you please let me know if anyone got it working before? If not, I probably shouldn't waste my time on it.

I can't wait to get my hand on the Zero version of the sound card. :-)

Thanks,

-Jack

I just did a test today of the latest prototype. It works nicely. It seems that the Pi Zero isn't as powerful as the Pi 3 ... I have the Pi Zero v1.3.

I just have to get a video together and then I can start the kickstarter ... know anyone who would be interested in helping out with a video ?

Nice! Any chance I can buy an early prototype from you? :-)

Do you think the Pi Zero is powerful enough to stream audio from a Pi 3?

I will look around to see if anyone that I know is interested in helping out with a video. Any specific requirements for the video?

Video, is it in your project ?

The big idea I guess would be to get around low (computational) power issues by using longer buffers in ALSA ... that would allow cpu spikes to occur without effecting the audio output.

I would prefer to do the kickstarter, rather then give out early protos... know anyone who wants to do the kickstarter video ?
