To anyone having issues with WiFi and this board...

I've played around with this and whether you have WiFi issues or not depends on which WifFi channel you are using. I haven't tested all of them but channels 9, 10 and 11 cause issues, channels 1 and 6 are fine.

To find channel do 'sudo iwlist wlan0 scan'
Search the output for your wireless network. You should see something like this:

Cell 03 - Address: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
Channel:9
Frequency:2.452 GHz (Channel 9)
Quality=61/70 Signal level=-49 dBm
Encryption key:on
ESSID:"MY_SSID"

I suspect that when the WiFi frequency is above a certain number, interference from some component on the board (presumably the clock oscillators) causes interference. Channel 1 is at 2.412GHz so is fine. Channel 6 at 2.437 GHz is still OK but channel 9 at 2.452 GHz causes issues.

So to fix there are 2 choices:
1. Log into your wireless router and change the channel to 6 or below. Channels 7 and 8 might work - I haven't tested them.
2. Use a 40pin ribbon cable or similar to relocate the board a few cms away from the Pi. This works jut fine for me.

As a follow up I cannot really recommend anyhting other than changing your WiFi channel. Running from a ribbon cable more or less works but there are still performance issued.

I can confirm that channel 8 is OK for me so channel 7 should be too.

Thanks for the information - interesting that it seems to be interacting with a particular wifi channel.

Anyone tried using alternative mounting positions.

I am having no WiFi issues over here, but I have mine soldered differently than most! ;)

Nice trick !

It must be the solid ground plane on the card which interferes with the Wifi.
