Pi3 + audioinjector + batteries?

Post by escuta » Tue Jan 23, 2018 7:18 pm

Hi forum,

I have a stereo audioinjector card on order and have a project that will require that the Pi is run on batteries with the user listening on headphones. I'd like to know if a standard portable mobile phone charger will be sufficient to run the project. Here is a little more information on what the requirements will be:

The Pi is to be run with /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor set to "performance" and I expect the 4 cores to be running at around 50%. Additionally, the Pi will be receiving serial data from an Arduino and sensors via a USB port at 115200 baud. I don't know yet what sort of gain will be necessary for the phones. The software to be run is SuperCollider-based. I need the unit to operate for up to 50 minutes at a time.

Do you think a device like the following will be up to the task?

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

All the best!

To answer my own question: yes it works well. Testing now a Xiaomi 2 20000mah Power Bank with a Pi3, audio injector and an Arduino Uno attached delivering continuous data at baud rate of 115200. The Xiaomi 2 is supposed to deliver 5.1V at up to 2.4A.

Nice !

Thanks for the update - I have also wondered in the past how well a battery bank would work.
