Controlling Audio Volume

Is there a way to control the output volume in software (not using the knobs)? I have it running but using AlsaMixer I only seem able to mute the volume but not raise/lower it.

Yep - the easiest way is to use amixer.

For example :
amixer set Master 90%

you can see all the available controls by running amixer without any arguments.

If you want to control the RCA volume and not the headphone volume, then you should follow these instructions.
