Minimum Period Size for Stereo card?

What is the native minimum period size for the audio coming off the board?

(ie., the lowest number of frames we can get at a single instance)

The lowest latency I have seen (with an unloaded CPU) is 0.5 ms worth of buffer at 96 kHz.
