Octo with other sound devices

I tried enabling snd-aloop virtual loopback sound card for the ability to stream audio from web browsers to JACK and to the Octo. It's part of the Linux kernel, it just needs to be told to run on startup.
But as soon as it is running, JACK and Octo stop working. The sync is all over the place. I can tell by Reaper flashing the transport bar. It happens only when there are audio drop outs and synchronization issues. Do I need to edit some configuration files to make it all happy? If yes, which?
