Testing Octo

Post by mccauleyf1 » Thu Jan 25, 2018 2:07 am

I've installed Octo, is there an easy command to test it to make sure everything installed correctly?

sure - can you post results of

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep audio
Then also

Code: Select all

aplay -l
arecord -l
aplay -L
arecord -L
Does alsamixer open a mixer console ?

I've installed the sound card, and I've installed Pure Data.

But I can't get ANY SOUND to come out, either with Pure Data's Test Module or just trying to play an audio file.

Here are the results from testing:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ dmesg | grep audio
[ 7.376841] audioinjector-octo soc:sound: cs42448 <-> 3f203000.i2s mapping ok

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: audioinjectoroc [audioinjector-octo-soundcard], device 0: AudioInject-HIFI cs42448-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ aplay -L
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
anyChannelCount
default
sysdefault:CARD=audioinjectoroc
audioinjector-octo-soundcard,
Default Audio Device
dmix:CARD=audioinjectoroc,DEV=0
audioinjector-octo-soundcard,
Direct sample mixing device
dsnoop:CARD=audioinjectoroc,DEV=0
audioinjector-octo-soundcard,
Direct sample snooping device
hw:CARD=audioinjectoroc,DEV=0
audioinjector-octo-soundcard,
Direct hardware device without any conversions
plughw:CARD=audioinjectoroc,DEV=0
audioinjector-octo-soundcard,
Hardware device with all software conversions

alsamixer also successfully opened.

Any ideas?? Thanks a bunch!

I have a similar problem... no sound comming out the rca jacks
here is what I have tried up to date.
AlsaMixer gui shows the audio injector I/O correctly, so I wonder where to go from here.

Also, when I start Audactity, the input VU meter shows a constant signal comming from channel ADC1, nothing else.
I'm starting to wonder if I received a bad board?
Anyone have an idea of what I can do to move forward?

Hi there, your card is setup ok - that is a good start !
You should be able to aplay and hear a sound.

When you use puredata - can you change the RCA plugs and find the audio anywhere ?

Seems that you still have pulse installed, and HDMI is showing up. Have you tried the auto installer for sanity ?

I would confirm that the audio device you are using is the octo - also try playing sound and switching RCA jacks.

Thanks for the response.

I have indeed used the autoinstaller and everything seems to have worked well... yet I get no sound in or out.
I tried all 8 inputs and all 6 outputs.
No sound in or out anywhere, the 3.5mm jack, hdmi or your sound board.
Just some noise while the PI reboots.
What do I do next to debug this?
