Programmable control? Volume, sample rate, etc.
Hello. Is it possible to change any settings/values for the stereo sound card from within programs like volume or sample rate? I'm planning to use the card inside of something and it will be rather inaccessible and I was wondering if anything can be modified through programming. Currently i'm only adjusting the input and output volume using the analog controls. Changes in alsamixer do not seem to effect the volume, for example. Thank you.

Hey Jhenox,
I am not certain about the sample rate, but if you are wanting to record audio and convert to a different sample rate, then you could use SoX to convert the sample rate, and change the volume level.
By the way, you should be able to use the alsamixer to adjust the volume.

Ah ok. Thank you. I was playing with the master volume and I wasn't hearing a change to the volume on my speakers. I will need to play with it a bit more.
I'll also need to read more about using the alsaaudio library from Python. Thank you again.

Hi there,
The master volume controls the headphone levels. To control the RCA levels in software, you can use the ALSA softvol plugin, check here :

Yes you can problematically change the sample rate. I don't program python for audio, but you can check some C++ tutorials I have begun writing in the discussion pages.
Others on this forum do use python for audio programming, hopefully they can help you.
