Recording sound

I have question regarding recording through pi, I have a raspberry pi 3/3B and I would like to have a microphone added to it to record sounds that have a high decibels. What’s the easiest way to implement a recording microphone on a pi and still have it quite small as it is? I don’t want to add a big real microphone I rather want it to be inbuilt with the pi if you guys understand. If anyone can answer me that would be of tremendous help.

Ps. I’m a beginner so please try to make a manual for idiots.
